Any self-respecting prepper will not be caught dead without a tactical flashlight during a time of crisis. It is one of the most useful pieces of equipment that you could own. In fact, you should have several of them.
One for your home, one for your bug out bag and if possible, one for each member in your family. In this article, we'll look at why a tactical flashlight is so useful.
1. Sturdy and portable
Unlike conventional flashlights, tactical flashlights are made of much stronger material and are more rugged and durable. Also known as military flashlights, they can take a lot of knocks and still keep going.
Depending on the flashlight you buy, it could be waterproof too.
Because of the construction, tactical flashlights are much more suitable than normal flashlights during survival situations.
Another plus point of a tactical flashlight is that it's much smaller that most other types of flashlights. That makes it easily portable and very useful in a few situations such as when you need it for self-defense, and that brings us to the next point.
There are many self-defense courses all over the world teaching people how to use tactical flashlights as a form of self-defense. Because the flashlight is armor coated and made out of weapon-grade aluminum, it's highly useful for self-defense applications.
A woman who is travelling alone will be able to light up dark corners or corridors at night to see if anyone is hiding there. This will help her be better prepared for unwelcome surprises.
It can also be used in close quarters combat situations. Of course, you'd need to have knowledge of defending yourself with a weapon.
Training in martial arts like Eskrima/Kali will teach you how to fight with a knife. The same principles apply, but you'll be using a tactical flashlight instead.
Many of these flashlights have a toothed or serrated bezel at the end. These can be used for striking your opponent. Another method will be to use the strong light emitted by the flashlight to temporarily blind your opponent as you deliver a swift kick to the groin or make a run for it.
In countries where the laws are strict and you're not allowed to carry weapons for self-defense, you'll still be able to carry a tactical flashlight. You'll even be able to bring it on board planes.
3. Very bright
The light emitted by a tactical flashlight is much brighter than the average flashlight. That makes it much more useful in a survival situations when the lights go out. You'll be able to see much clearer with the strong light from a tactical flashlight.
Ideally, the tactical flashlight you buy should at least be 120 lumens. This is the bare minimum and in a self-defense situation, this level of brightness is necessary to temporarily blind your attacker.
The really good tactical flashlights can go up to 1000 lumens. So, you can imagine how powerful the light must be.
4. Useful for breaking glass windows
Another benefit of tactical flashlights that most people are unaware of is that it can be used to smash car windows, windshields, etc.
If you ever find yourself in a car that veers off the road and ends up in a lake with you trapped inside, you'll not be able to open the doors because of the water pressure and with most cars fitted with electric windows, there's a good chance that they won't work either.
The bezel on the end of a tactical flashlight will be able to smash through the window and you can swim through it to reach safe ground. This is just one of the hypothetical scenarios where a tactical flashlight will prove invaluable.
A tactical flashlight is very versatile and can be used in a variety of situations. Going camping outdoors? It's suitable. Going to the mall at night and need a form of self-defense? It works just as well.
Need strobe lights to signal for help if you're stranded in a snowstorm or flood? The tactical flashlight will get you the attention you need.
Facing a wild animal that might attack you? The blinding luminosity of the tactical flashlight will disorientate the animal and make it scamper off while you retreat to safety.
These 5 points are just the tip of the iceberg. There is a myriad of uses for tactical flashlights and you'll only know how useful they are after you get one.
Once you've seen the multitude of situations you could use it in, you'll never leave home without it - from looking under your couch to see if you dropped your keys there to using it when you're outdoors at night, your tactical flashlight will be your new best friend. Get one and you'll see what we mean. Oh, and you can name it too, but that's optional.
