4 Types of Violent Threats Every Prepper Should Be Aware Of

Violent threats in this article will refer to threats that seek to do bodily harm to you. During a crisis, depending on where you live and the actions that you'll need to take in order to survive, you may be exposed to one or more violent threats.

In this article, we'll look at the 4 types of threats you may face and how you can deal with them. It may not be pretty, but survival scenarios usually aren't.

* Terrorists or enemy forces
If the area you live in or work at is facing terrorist threats, survival will usually mean going on the offence if the need arises. Terrorists aim for maximum human casualties in order to strike fear and panic.

Reasoning with terrorists is NOT an advisable thing to do. If you're carrying a firearm and facing an imminent threat from a terrorist, you will need to use the firearm on the threat until he's down.

Most hostages taken by terrorists are usually tortured and executed. You're better off putting up a fight. If you're cornered with a group of people, rally them quickly and make a hasty plan to retaliate without mercy.

Allowing terrorists to round everyone up and bring them under control is one of the biggest mistakes that victims make. Your highest chances of success are when things are most chaotic, and the terrorists are struggling to gain control.

If it's war and you're facing enemy troops, this is quite a different beast because soldiers are generally, better disciplined, have formidable weapons and more training. You'd be better off keeping a low profile and following their instructions.

You can quietly form resistance groups and launch guerilla-styled attacks to disrupt them, but you shouldn't be openly defiant or confrontational.

* Criminals
When there's a crisis, it's common for career criminals to come out of the woodwork looking for crimes of opportunity. Housebreaking, rapes, muggings, assaults, etc. tend to go up during difficult times such as natural disasters.

Law enforcement will have its hands full coping with the effects of the disaster. So, policing takes a backseat due to manpower limitations. The criminals know this and use it to their advantage.

As a homeowner, you'll need to ensure that your doors and windows are always locked. It's best to make your home burglar-proof during peace time. This will keep you safer when there's a crisis.

If you're able to keep a firearm in the house, you'll be safer. The ratcheting sound of a shotgun will deter even the most motivated criminal. Keep a few firearms in the house and make sure that you know how to use them.

Usually, criminals may form little gangs to get strength in numbers. Knowing self-defense techniques may be useful if it's a one-on-one encounter, but if you're facing 5 possible assailants who wish to break into your home, one firearm will level the playing field and when one of them goes down, the rest will scramble like rats for cover.

* Desperate people
Another group of people who may become violent threats are people who have become desperate in a crisis. If there's a shortage of food or water and people are starving, some of them will not hesitate to hurt you to take what you have.

It's the law of the jungle at work here and the fittest survives. While these may be normal law-abiding citizens who wouldn't dream of committing a crime during peace time, desperate times may force them to do desperate things. You must be prepared for them too.

* Wild animals
If you're bugging out in the wilderness, you should be aware of the wildlife in the area. Generally, you may face threats like bears, wild dogs, alligators, etc. It all depends on where you're camping out.

Know your terrain and the habitat well. If you're in an area where there are bears, always store your food in airtight containers and keep bear spray and a firearm with you.

There might be snakes in the area too. While these cold-blooded reptiles generally avoid humans, they may seek the warmth and heat in your vehicle or tent. So, check your vehicle and tent before getting into it. If you take your shoes off for the night, check those too.

Now that you know what the 4 possible threats are, do take measures to keep yourself safe. If you live in a country where it's legal to own firearms, it's your duty to own a couple too.

There's nothing worse than being in a position where you're staring down the barrel of a gun held by a violent criminal, and you have no means to defend yourself or your teenage daughters because you decided to be the bigger person and didn't want to have anything to do with guns.

There have been many people who have watched their entire family abused and killed by marauders invading their homes because they had no way to protect themselves. Be aware and decide wisely.
